The most important attribute of a successful CV is that it clearly explains to the reader what it is you can do for them.

Psychometric testing is fast becoming a popular screening mechanism and an integral part of the selection process.

Interview Advice

Your CV has got you your interview. Now your success in the interview is all up to you. Preparation is the key for a successful interview.

Pre-interview

Prepare for the interview by researching your potential employer and having a full briefing of the position by websites, your recruitment consultant and news articles.

Presentation:

Dress code should be conservative.

Don't go overboard on accessories or jewellery or perfume/aftershave.

Familiarise yourself with the route to the office; if driving find out the route beforehand and if necessary do a "dummy run". If relying on public transport, find out timetables and stops well in advance.

Day of interview

Be punctual for your interview, leaving yourself enough time to tidy your appearance if necessary.

Always be courteous to the receptionist, first impressions matter with EVERYONE. Their opinion can prove important as well.

Portray confidence - not arrogance.

Acknowledge everyone with good eye contact. Practice a firm handshake.

During interview

Focus on the interview itself - listen carefully to what the interviewers are asking you.

Know your CV and be capable of discussing every point on your CV.

Be concise but never monosyllabic.

Speak clearly and confidently during the interview.

Never be negative about previous employers or experiences.

Do not bring up money on your first interview.

Do have questions prepared for the interviewer about the position, company, future plans etc.

Also highlight any experience that you may have had that will benefit your future employer.

Show your personality during the interview and your enthusiasm for the role. Any doubts that you may have may be best answered in the second interview.

Make the interviewers remember you in the best possible way.
